Today I was close to the finish line. mid afternoon, I set one the last deck beam support on the starboard side. Crawling out of the somewhat confined space, I had to have knocked a little bit the plank - as suddenly a small spring erupted beneath. Some of the chalking had to come loose and allowed a small spring to erupt between two of the planks. As Martin later said, its only true if you took a picture. Well I can tell you it took a little bit of an effort - a drive up to Huonville to get some fast-set cement. The help from Martin cutting a few pieces of plywood to size and screwing it onto the planks to cover the joints between the planks. At last I poured the cement and the flow reduced to a trickle. Still more than the water that made its way into the boat, yet not enough to be a challenge for the bildge pump. Slightly under time pressure I made it home in time for other important business. Though during the night I had to think a few times whether or not it will hold. The good news it did and Saturday instead of spending much more time on saving the boat I only took this picture and then went on for sushi at Massakis in Geeveston. Another beautiful day and drive. |
