Today was an exciting day. The Viking went back onto the waters. I had hoped to do this under own power, yet the gods had decided otherwise. Laurence from Franklin Marine, was so kind and towed the Viking a few hundred meters downstream. All went well withlittle problems. This said after a minor problem with the tow boat got fixed. A BIG THANK YOU to the Wooden Boat Centre for hostig the Viking for the past three months. |

A gorgeous day to become officially the skipper of the Viking.
With an early start I hopped across the bridge to Geilston Bay Boat Club to take the Recreational Boating Course with Fred and Jane from BoatBiz-Tas . After a good thorough lesson in theory, learning all about the rules of the road, lights and hazards we went out onto the water. Safe Boating is the emphasis. netural, putting in forward and backward gear. Hands on expeirence and everyone learned a bunch. For me I believe it was really the second time on the controls. I can say it went all well, no problem getting the boat safely back onto the pier. We even saw a couple of dolphins on the way. I do look forward to being on the water after and while the Viking is restored. At the end a test in the theory which I got full score and I got my Interim Recreational Motor Boat Licence. Now you guys can call me Captain. Ahoy everybody review those boating lessons and stay safe on the water Some links for the day http://www.boatbiz-tas.com.au/ http://www.mast.tas.gov.au/recreational/licences-registration/ http://geilstonbayboatclub.com.au/ A post with no pictures.
Two weeks ago I have sent of the startermotor clutch for refurbishment. Turn around time was supposed to be about a week to ten days. The clutch was sent off to the mainland. At the end of the first week I called them up and inquired on how things going. there wasn't an answer and when I finally called again on Monday, they had one. The package was misplaced and apparently dropped off at the rear door of the premise instead of the front door. Well at least it arrived. Now I got a phone call telling me that the company has problems getting some spareparts and that it will take a bit longer. They also told me that the person who is doing the work isn't well, that he had to go to the hospital ... Well I do have to say I wasn't surprised to hear such a story, there are always wiggly lines with such project. anyway lets see what happens next week, and whether I will get the starter motor back soonish.
