Today another "quick trip to Franklin. The task for today was to reinstall the starter motor and take some measurements for temporary framing to make the Viking a bit more seaworthy.
The starter motor went back into its slot with a few minor hick-ups. just right when done a thunderstorm passed by. The short and heavy rain showed how frail the Viking actually is. Sitting under deck in the motor compartment the rain took little time to make it through the decking. The same picture in the Focsle where it looked like its on the outside. After the thunderstorm had passed we cleaned up a little bit, added some plastic cover and then headed home again. After lunch I took a drive down to Port Huon to check out the mooring. I hadn't been down to the mooring place since, well since we took the boat up in July. From the shore line it all looks good the buoy is bobbing in the water. Thus it should be all set for getting the mooring serviced shortly.
On the way back I stopped in at the Wooden Boat Centre, for a chat (gettings ome more advise) and looking through a few of the boat making books. With the beautiful weather and my son in the tow it was a nice afternoon perfect to test out some of the features of my new phone camera. Motor Servicing
Today we wanted to see whether we can start up the motor. mid day I met up with Adrian. We dug our way through the wheel house, checked out all the electrical connections and discovered that one of the battery connectors to make the 24 V system, had failed. it was pretty heavily corroded and thus required replacing. We did a little bit of more checking out the motor system and then parted.
A did a bit more work around the decking and the old freezer bvox and then called it a day myself. A quick day, with some set- backs. |
