Another beautiful day in the Huon Valley. It was a long day, First catching up with two friends Cathy and Duncan. Duncan is restoring a boat on his own and was providing me with some advise on the boat work. We inspected the boat and dug a bit deeper underneath the layers, chatted on how to approach things best. After saying good bye, I went on to dig deeper into the boat. It was time to clean out the front and to my surprise I got further than I had expected. With the Bow stripped I went on to inspect the sides of the Wet Well. Removed some shelving and discovered that the Wet Well actually is cemented in place. There was quiet a significant amount of water standing in the starboard side and I went on chiseling a small drainage channel into the concrete to drain the lake. All this done the largest part of the day had passed and I enjoyed a few beautiful views on the water. It wasn't yet the end of the day and I was contemplating about what next to do. Luckily I have to say I decided to get started with packing. Carrying all the wood back to the car took much longer than I had anticipated. A quick break gave me watching a platypus swimming his/her way. a little bit exhausted I got done before night was falling, and I went on the drive home to Hobart. | First I went on deconstructing the table, later on removed the lining, which in part was dry and in part was dripping wet. I moved all of the wood out onto the deck, then onto jetty and wrapped things into plastic bags for the journey home. As I made progress I undid layer after layer, which had been constructed over the past century, until all that's left was the hull and its structural members. A few impressions in the images on the left. Half way through the afternoon I got a visitor and we had a chat about the boat, restoring. One phrase which I have encountered now on a regular basis is " you are a brave man" - taking on such project. Don't really know why, may not yet and it may be better this way. |
